They made you feel ashamed of it. But I want to tell you a different story.

A few months ago, I decided it was time to embrace my grey hair. Actually, that’s not entirely true. Like many of my recent actions, I wanted to see, “What happens if…?”This time, it was, “What happens if I stop coloring my hair?” I’d seen a few women doing it, and they inspired me to give it a try.

“What is under the hair dye?” I heard myself asking.

“What feeling will I discover?”

“What beliefs will I dismantle?”

“What gifts will I find, if any?”

“Will I feel less beautiful?”

At first, I anxiously examined every photo, stared into the mirror, and struggled to accept the grey. Hello, vanity—there you are, my old friend! I was afraid I’d look ugly, old, unkempt—to put it bluntly, I feared losing my sophistication.

But instead, I discovered a few unexpected things:
🔎 The empowerment of embracing natural beauty
🔎 The freedom from dye and constant hair appointments
🔎 Confidence and strength in accepting aging with grace
🔎 The joy of challenging societal beauty norms
🔎 Compliments and positive reactions from people admiring the natural look (and majority thought I was even younger than I am 😎 )

I’m not saying everyone should stop colouring their hair—especially if they’re not ready! As with all vulnerable actions, timing and alignment is key.

What I am saying is that it’s incredibly liberating to BE YOURSELF, to experience, to try new things, to be curious, to be playful and daring!
You’ll only truly know how it feels when you allow yourself to experience the initial discomfort to let in the afterglow.

I’m in the process of revamping my offerings and my mission with EquiNova to bring us all closer to actions that empower us and align with who WE WANT TO BE, rather than who we feel WE HAVE TO BE. Stay tuned.
